“Hygge” - Cosiness is wrapped in a blanket

Hygge

[‘hue-gah’]

(verb / Danish)

To feel warmth, cosiness, comfort, snug:

A sense of wellbeing, belonging, contentment, togetherness, intimacy, happiness.

“Hygge” – Cosiness is wrapped in a blanket! Hygge is a Danish and Norwegian word for a mood of cosiness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment. As a cultural category with its sets of associated practices hygge has more or less the same meanings in Danish and Norwegian, but the notion is more central in Denmark than Norway.
Hygge isn’t a ‘thing’, and there isn’t really a way to learn ‘how to hygge’ or something you can buy. Many people describe hygge as a feeling, a special moment, whether it being alone or with friends. Hygge is also known as ‘the art of creating intimacy’, whether this be a simple candle glowing in winter, or a home cooked meal for the family to enjoy, it all adds to this intangible sense of comfort and familiarity.

This Danish movement Is perfect for babies and toddlers, especially to keep them comfortable and warm in the colder months. Decorating your nursery with layering textures, natural elements like wood tones and plants, and lots of lots of blankets! “Visiting Norway and seeing the Fjords was such an inspirational experience. I can now completely understand why ‘Hygge’ is so desirable. I get it and I love it!”
